summary
The Accountant manages all aspects of accounts receivable with general bookkeeping responsibilities and assists in the efficient and effective administration of district fiscal affairs. Compiles and analyzes information to prepare entries to accounts, such as general ledger accounts, documenting business transactions and preparing monthly and quarterly reports. The Accountant is also responsible for ensuring accuracy and efficiency while processing and monitoring incoming payments, and securing revenue by verifying and posting receipts.


Position Responsibilities
• Inputs accurate posting and classification of receivable transactions. 
• Prepares invoices/billings, and deposits.  
• Maintains comprehensive, complete and consistent records. 
• Reconciles all property tax collections, and implements past due collection procedures when necessary. 
• Reviews general ledger transactions for accuracy and proper classification.  
• Enters monthly journal entries and all final audit adjusting entries and completes both the month and year end closing processes. 
• Completes pre-audits on accounts payable checks for accuracy and proper account coding. 
• Maintains a chart of accounts that is in accordance with State mandates and school policies and procedures. 
• Submits grant reporting, oversees the cash draw process, and verifies compliance with grant requirements. 
• Assists in the reconciliation of balance sheet accounts on a monthly basis as well as the preparation of additional reports provided to administration. 
• Manages all fixed asset reporting and inventory tracking.
• Assists with budget development and analysis as well as year-end audit procedures. 
• Prepare monthly financial accounting batch entries for auxiliary programs. 
• Other duties as deemed appropriate by the Director of Business Services.
Qualifications
• The position requires knowledge normally acquired through a Bachelor’s Degree (B.A.) in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; or equivalent combination of work experience and education. 
• Three (3) to five (5) years of related job experience or expertise in accounting is required.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Required
• Knowledge of accounting software and Microsoft Office programs.  
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with internal staff and external organizations. • Ability to understand and translate accounting terminology. 
• Ability to organize, prioritize, and solve complex problems. 
• Ability to work independently and make decisions in accordance with established policies and regulations. 
• Proficient mathematical skills sufficient to calculate figures and percentages necessary to prepare reports and reconcile accounts.
