Under the supervision of a Coordinator or Supervisor, serves as a master's level professional clinician performing a wide range of direct and indirect mental health services within a specific program or area of assignment. Conducts therapy, recommends referrals to various programs, program components and other services in the community. Consults with services providers. Responsible for extensive case documentation. Assesses strengths by interviewing and observing consumers and their families, and in conjunction with them formulate a comprehensive family plan of service. May provide intervention from a preventive or corrective philosophy in the form of outreach services.
May deliver prevention services including mental health consultation/education and life coping skills/stress management training. Responsible for carrying out all activities of the program/sub-unit in such a manner that fulfills CMHA’s mission, policies and procedures.

Position Responsibilities
• Performs intake evaluations/assessments which include diagnostic interviewing, assignment of DSM diagnosis, mental status examinations, and obtaining personal, family, social, emotional, and medical information related to the presenting problem. May include preadmission and annual resident review.
• Coordinates provided services to consumers on his/her caseload. Consults, cooperates, advocates and collaborates with consumers, family members, other Community Mental Health Authority staff, and community agencies--linking and mediating for the consumer's benefit.
• Maintains clinical documentation related to consumer treatment and intervention in accordance with Community Mental Health Authority requirements, accreditation standards and third party billing standards in a timely manner.
• Provides clinical intervention (individual, group therapy, family therapy and counseling, crises intervention, and case management) to assigned consumers and their families.
• Facilitates admissions and discharge planning in accordance with prescribed procedures for voluntary and involuntary hospitalization. Provides input on treatment planning for patient stay and aftercare.
• Individually or as a member of a team and in conjunction with the consumer, assists in the development of a comprehensive family plan of service individualized to meet the consumer’s strengths and needs with measurable goals and objectives.
• Maybe required to lend professional expertise in peer training and small group in-servicing.
• Adheres to the expectations of participation in continuing education to maintain and increase professional competence which may include unit seminars or theoretical issues, in-service training programs for Community Mental Health Authority or other agencies, or conferences that are relevant to the clinical work.
• May administer and interpret intelligence, achievement, interest, personality and various psychological tests, if appropriately licensed.
• As a team member conducts clinical case load review sessions obtaining feedback on diagnostic and treatment processes. May participate in interdisciplinary diagnostic/staffing and case review sessions to exchange information and to identify, appropriate level of care (intensity of services) and interventions.
• May represent Community Mental Health Authority in meetings with community groups and agencies.
• Provides outreach case management and counseling services.
• Participates in clinical supervision related to the effective treatment of consumers.
• Serves as a liaison to other agencies and attends interagency meetings as needed.
• Provides assessment and ongoing monitoring of consumer's mental status and physical status. Facilitates consumer's identification of specific and incremental behavior objectives toward goal attainment. Documents consumer's evaluation of progress on goals and objectives, making revisions as determined by consumer. Directly assists consumers in obtaining needed resources.
• May supervise, provide feedback and support to academic interns, practicum students and/or volunteers.
• Attends and participates in all staff, team and/or interdisciplinary team meetings as required.
• Provides crises intervention to consumers as required. Assesses the type and nature of the emergency and triages as necessary.
• Maintains productivity standards relative to the requirements of the position.
• Establishes and maintains appropriate working relations with consumers, staff and outside agencies.
• Maintains familiarity with Michigan Mental Health Code.
• Responsible for knowledge about consumer recipient rights and procedures governing them.
• Responsible for knowledge, and adherence to, all Community Mental Health Authority policies and procedures.
• Observes all rules of confidentiality as it relates to consumer information, both internally and in dealing with outside individuals and/or agencies.
• Maintains an acceptable level of attendance and work performance.
• Observes all rules of confidentiality, both internally specified by policy and procedure and externally required by law.
• Will perform all other essential job duties as assigned.
Qualifications
• Possession of a Master's degree in Social Work, Psychology or related field is required.
• One year experience (professional or paraprofessional) in the examination, evaluation and treatment of minors and their families required or one academic year of graduate practicum/internship experience with children and families.
• One year of post Master’s experience with minors and families within the past 6 years preferred.
• Possession of appropriate State of Michigan credential is required.
• Must pass background verification and credentialing procedure consisting of: Michigan State Police clearance check, verification of a professional license, Medicaid/Medicare verification, verification of an acceptable driving record, educational background check and verification of an acceptable work history.
• May be required to possess the State Of Michigan Certified Addictions Counselor credential.
• Possession of a valid Michigan driver's license is required.
• Access to reliable means of transportation for job related use required.
• Must pass a State of Michigan police clearance check.
• May be required to be fingerprinted.

Displays knowledge of growth and development and its applied relevance to the behavior of assigned population and is able to gather and interpret data in relation to the consumer’s age. Demonstrates knowledge of the, cultural needs, range of treatment needed and the available treatment resources and their appropriate use for individuals diagnosed with developmental disabilities.

• Must be able to communicate effectively in writing and verbally is required.
• May be required to operate a computer.
• Other requirements needed for this classification will depend upon the area of assignment and program need.

• May be required to physically access consumers in a variety of community settings.

• A range from office environment to residential and community visitations.
• Various noise levels in the work settings.

• Home visits with minimal cleanliness standards.
• Regular use of telephone and possibly computer.
• Extended periods of standing, sitting, walking and/or driving.
• Must be physically able to access consumers in a variety of community and residential settings, some which may produce second hand smoke and are not barrier free.
